Whatever It Takes, Part 1

Pairing: Zach/Chris, Chris/OMC
Summary: From the based on this prompt on the Kink Meme: I hope someone finds this interesting enough to right [sic] it. So, I have read a couple of stories recently where Chris doesn’t realize that he loves Zach until it’s too late and Zach is with someone else. I want a story that is the reverse. Chris had for a while wanted Zach, but Zach was too oblivious, so Chris gave up and found another guy. so basically Zach has to work for it. Zach has to prove to Chris that he is the better guy. Jealous Zach is a fun read. and I like happy ending, but Zach has to work for it, and Chris just doesn’t leave the other guy just cause Zach says so. So lots and lots of drama. please please someone write it.

A/N: I have no clue how long this will be, but it feels like it’ll end up being epic. I’m keeping a perspective on it to keep it moving.

It was that fucking phone call that did it. That was Zach’s tipping point, one he hadn’t even known he had.

“So, Zach. Your party tomorrow night. Is it alright if I bring someone?” Chris’s voice had sounded normal except for a slight tremor of nervousness. Right then, Zach knew this wasn’t just a friend. Chris wouldn’t be nervous about just a friend, nor would he ask if it was okay to bring a tag-along for a mere friend. At least, he hadn’t ever bothered before.

Schooling his voice, Zach had simply given his blessing for it, seemingly unconcerned, though he did end the call quickly after that. As he hung up, he frowned at the phone in his hand, staring at it thoughtfully. What’s the problem, Quinto? He had a vague sense of unease in the pit of his stomach, but he couldn’t quite identify why. Trying to shake it off, he let out a whistle and listened for the clacking of Noah’s paws on the hardwoods as he came running. Maybe taking Noah for a walk would do him some good.

Zach was almost always particular about his appearance during social situations. Sure, he didn’t really give a shit when he was on his way to yoga or walking Noah, but having guests qualified as a reason to pay attention. Still, this was getting ridiculous, his standing undecided in front of his closet, chewing on his bottom lip, a heap of clothes tried on and discarded on the bed behind him. Yeah, he was particular about his appearance. But not this bad.

He eventually settled on skinny jeans and a black button down shirt that one of his friends once said made him look like sin on a platter the way it hung from his broad shoulders. His brain, running questioning commentary at him all day at the strange behavior he was exhibiting, muttered, Zachary, if I didn’t know better, I’d say you’re gearing up to seduce someone. And who might that be, pray tell? Even the thought made Zach’s face flush with heat, and he stamped down the question before the answer could bubble up. But even with his efforts, a pair of lucid blue eyes swam in his thoughts like a beacon, and he couldn’t help the smile that spread over his face.
